SHELBOURNE HOTEL | WINDOW CLEANING
We were approached by the Shelbourne Hotel about having all front windows cleaned, including the front and back of the building and all floors. They wanted over 200 windows cleaned, with special care taken on frames, facades and to ensure no damage to the historical and sensitive facade structure as well as no disruption to the business or the walkways below.
Being in the heart of the city had exposed the windows of The Shelbourne Hotel to all many of pollution and grime. From heavy Dublin traffic passing by to dust and foliage matter blowing in from St. Stephen’s Green Park, the windows are heavily vulnerable and become quite grubby over the course of a regular Irish winter.
There were three major problems, however. Access to the windows is limited due to a basement level below, the importance of preservation of the historic frames, facades and sills as well as busy foot and motor traffic on the footpath in front of the building.
After consultation with facilities management at The Shelbourne Hotel, SMC Group drew up a plan to provide a clean, safe, eco-friendly and time-sensitive solution to the problem.
Using a hybrid solution of multiple techniques including extendable poles, cherry picker and traditional window cleaning methods, we were able to reach all windows, without causing any obstruction or nuisance to the business or areas in front of the building.
Why is our method effective?
We used eco-friendly products that don’t cause any damage to property and special preservation techniques to not only provide a clean, streak-free window but using a spray technique that minimises water usage and further protects the surfaces.
We did this in the early hours of the morning when foot traffic is at a minimum to avoid disruption to pedestrians and the business.
